Fotofacials combine intense pulsed light (IPL Photorejuvenation) with radiofrequency (RF) technology to safely and effectively treat the signs of photoaging, hyperpigmentation, facial redness and some visible veins and vessels. Targeting pigmented cells and dilated vessels, Fotofacial RF™ technology uses wavelengths of light and radiofrequency energy to deliver precise and targeted heat energy. A series of treatments is generally recommended to achieve desired results.
Oakville Plastic Surgery and Advanced Skincare is committed to providing the highest level of care and safety to its patients. How it works
Treatments are generally 20-45 minutes in length and require minimal to no downtime. Pigmented cells and dilated vessels are targeted and ‘zapped’ by this colour correcting technology, allowing your body to naturally clear away the targeted pigment. The destroyed blood vessel cells are metabolized by the body while undesirable pigmentation is pushed to the skin’s surface and sloughed away through exfoliation, revealing a more even and radiant skin tone.
Some redness and swelling may occur for the first 24 to 48 hours after treatment. The skin may feel rough and dry for about a week afterwards as the targeted cells are pushed to the surface and sloughed away. Wearing a minimum SPF 30 broad-spectrum sunscreen daily and avoiding sun exposure before and after the session is vital to a successful treatment outcome.
