Abdominoplasty (Tummy tuck) “Contour your body”
Tummy tuck surgery (abdominoplasty) is a body contouring surgery that contours and remodels the body by removing loose skin and fat and tightening abdominal muscles.
When is it used?
Hanging folds of skin on the abdomen can occur after pregnancy and weight loss, or sometimes just with aging. Tummy tuck surgery removes the excess skin making the figure more attractive. Body contouring surgery is not intended for weight loss or to correct obesity. At your consultation Dr. de Kleer will discuss specific indications for surgery as well as goals specific to your abdomen.
What happens during the procedure?
This surgery may be performed as a full or mini abdominoplasty. A full abdominoplasty will treat the abdomen, while a mini abdominoplasty treats the abdomen below the navel only. The surgery is performed under general anesthesia.
An incision is made across the lower abdomen, just above the pubic area. A second incision is made to free the navel from surrounding tissue.
The skin is then separated from the abdominal wall to reveal the muscles in your abdomen. These muscles are tightened by pulling them close together and stitching them into their new position. This provides a firmer abdominal wall and narrows the waistline.
Liposuction is often carried out at the same time to address bulges of fat under the skin, shaping the waistline.
The extra skin is removed. A new hole is cut for your navel, which is then stitched in place. Finally, the incisions will be stitched, dressings will be applied, and a temporary tube may be inserted to drain excess fluid from the surgical site.

What are the risks and potential complications?
Although most patients undergo abdominoplasty with very few complications, it is important for you to be well informed of the risks and potential benefits. These issues will be discussed with you in detail at your consultation with Dr. de Kleer. Patients can maximize their chances of a successful result by following their pre-and post-operative instructions, eating well and refraining from smoking. Please see information on how to prepare for surgery under FAQ.
What do I expect after surgery?
Return to work is normally by 2 weeks; however, heavier activities will need to be deferred for 4-6 weeks. A firmer, tighter, flatter abdomen is the expected result.
