Botox “Look relaxed and refreshed”
What is Botox?
Botox® Cosmetic is an approved, safe prescription medication that weakens muscles exposed to it. By injecting Botox into specific targeted facial muscles that cause lines and wrinkles, the muscles will relax, both preventing and treating wrinkles and lines. Botox has been used medically since 1980 and for cosmetic purposes since 1988.
When is it used?
Botox® Cosmetic is most commonly used to prevent, erase or diminish the deep lines between the eyebrows, the lines across the forehead and the lines around the eyes. Botox is very effective at erasing facial wrinkles and lines, and also at preventing them.
What happens during the procedure?
BOTOX® Cosmetic injections are administered using fine needles directly into the muscles under the skin of the affected area. The treatment is mildly uncomfortable and lasts 15 – 20 minutes.
What are the risks and potential complications?
The dose used for BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment is far below the toxic dose of the Botulinum toxin and there have been no reports of allergy. Occasionally temporary bruising or redness occurs in the injection site, or the injection is followed by brief pain or headache. Heaviness of the eye lids is the most significant complication of injection in the eyebrow area, and occurs in 1 to 2 percent of patients. When it occurs, it tends to be minimal and short lived, lasting from two to 12 weeks.
What do I expect after the treatment?
Immediately after BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment some mild swelling or redness may be noted in the area. Occasionally bruising can occur. It is recommended that you exercise the treated areas for a few hours by contracting the muscles and that you do not lie down after treatment for four hours.
Over the next 3 to 10 days you will notice your lines and wrinkles gradually softening to provide you with a fresher younger, more relaxed looking you.
You can expect the treatment to last for about three to six months.
