Neuromodulators

Neuromodulators—such as Botox Cosmetic®, Dysport®, and Xeomin®—are injectable treatments designed to soften the appearance of dynamic facial lines, including frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead wrinkles. These wrinkle-relaxing solutions contain botulinum toxin type A, which temporarily relaxes targeted facial muscles, allowing the overlying skin to smooth out naturally.

At Oakville Plastic Surgery, we personalize every treatment to your facial anatomy and aesthetic goals, ensuring refreshed, natural-looking results while maintaining expression and movement.

Treatment

Neuromodulator injections are a quick, non-surgical treatment designed to relax targeted facial muscles and reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles. At Oakville Plastic Surgery, treatment sessions typically take just 15–30 minutes. Common areas treated include the forehead, frown lines, crow’s feet, jawline, neck, and underarms (to reduce excessive sweating). With minimal downtime, most patients can return to their normal activities within a few hours. Results begin to appear within a few days, with full effect visible in 1–2 weeks. The smoothing results typically last 3–6 months, and up to 6 months when used for sweating.

How It Works

Neuromodulators work by blocking nerve signals to specific facial muscles, preventing them from contracting. This helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles that are formed by repetitive facial movements, also known as dynamic wrinkles.

In addition to cosmetic applications, neuromodulators such as Botox® are also FDA-approved for treating excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), making them a versatile solution for both aesthetic and therapeutic concerns.

Each product—Botox®, Dysport®, and Xeomin®—has slight differences in spread, onset time, and duration. Your provider will recommend the most appropriate option for your needs during your complimentary consultation.

Recovery

Neuromodulator injections are quick and minimally invasive. Most patients describe the sensation as a small pinch. For added comfort, topical numbing cream or an ice pack can be applied before treatment.
After the procedure:

  • Minor redness or swelling at the injection site may occur, typically resolving within hours
  • Avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area for at least 4–6 hours
  • Return to daily activities right away
