Breast Implants
A breast implant (or augmentation) procedure is performed to increase the size and shape of the breasts in the case where a woman feels her breasts are too small or she has experienced volume loss.
Treatment
Oakville Plastic Surgery is committed to providing the highest level of care and safety to its patients. Plastic surgeon Dr. Nancy de Kleer will thoroughly assess your condition and conduct a general health assessment to determine treatment candidacy. Surgical procedures are performed in a fully accredited surgical facility. The administration of a general anaesthetic will be discussed and explained prior to your procedure. Our team of highly skilled professionals takes every measure to ensure you’re fully informed and prepared for both pre- and post-surgical care.
How It Works
During the consultation process the choice of implant type, size, placement and incision point will be determined.
There are a couple different types of implants available, silicone and saline, both of which can be customized to the desired shape and size. Saline implants are enclosed in a silicone barrier and are filled to the desired size in the operating room. Silicone implants have a natural and soft feel and have been safely used for over thirty years.
There are several factors to consider when choosing the size of the breast implants. Height, weight, natural frame and regular activities are all taken into account to determine the ideal size for each individual. The breast implants can be placed either under the chest muscle (subpectoral) or directly underneath the breast tissue (subglandular). The three options for the surgical incision point are under the breast line, around the areola, or in the axilla. All of these decisions will be thoroughly discussed, based on a combination of your aesthetic goals and Dr. de Kleer’s assessment to ensure your safety and satisfaction.
Recovery
After surgery, your breasts may feel hard and twinges of discomfort may persist for a few weeks. You will be advised on pain management options and follow up appointments will be scheduled to monitor your recovery progress. Dr. de Kleer will explain how to care for your surgical incisions to ensure optimal recovery and comfort. A week of rest is ideal after a breast augmentation procedure. Avoiding using your arms and chest will be advised and wearing a fitted sports bra 24 hours a day for up to 3 months post surgery may be recommended. A return to normal activities can be expected around 3 weeks post-surgery.
