What Is Sculptra

Collagen is what keeps skin looking full and firm. Over time, our bodies naturally make less of it — a decline that can start as early as our twenties — and skin can lose its bounce and volume, which can contribute to wrinkles, lines and folds.

Sculptra is a biostimulator that is injected beneath the skin and works gradually with your body to help encourage your own collagen production. It's made from a substance your body can safely break down over time.

How Sculptra Works

It spreads through the treated area. Once injected, Sculptra® distributes evenly across the treatment area.
It encourages your skin to rebuild. This helps trigger your skin to start producing new collagen and elastin — the proteins that keep skin firm, smooth and supported.
Your skin rebuilds gradually. Over the following weeks, your skin works to rebuild its own collagen and elastin, helping restore firmness and structure from within.
Results build over time. Because Sculptra® works with your body's own natural process, results aren't immediate — expect a gradual improvement over several weeks. The treatment is slowly absorbed by the body, while the new collagen it helped build remains in place, contributing to results that can last up to 2 years.

Sculptra® results appear gradually — many patients begin to notice a change from about one month after treatment, with the appearance continuing to develop over the following weeks.

Your Treatment Timeline

Number of sessions: How many sessions you’ll need depends on a few factors, including how much area is being treated. Your provider will walk you through your personalized plan at your initial consultation.

Spacing between sessions: When more than one session is recommended, they’re typically spaced about 30–45 days apart.

When you’ll see results: Results build gradually rather than showing up right away — expect to notice a change in your skin over several weeks as the treatment takes effect.

How long results last: Results vary from person to person and can last up to 2 years. Touch-up sessions may be recommended to help maintain your results, which your provider can discuss with you.

Getting The Best Results From Sculptra®

Massage: Massaging your skin is crucial to ensure an even distribution of Sculptra® particles.
Rule of 5: 5 minutes vigorous massage on the treatment area, 5 times daily, for 5 days

Ice: Have an ice pack ready. Apply ice (in a clean washcloth or an ice pack) to the treated area intermittently after treatment to minimize swelling and/or bruising

UV Exposure: Avoid the sun, and extreme temperatures until any initial swelling and redness has been resolved

Is Sculptra® Right for You?

Sculptra® may not be the right fit for everyone. During your consultation, it’s important to let your provider know if you:

Sculptra® is intended for adults and is not recommended for anyone under 21 years of age.

Have had an allergic reaction to Sculptra® or its ingredients in the past

Are taking blood thinners

Have a history of raised or thickened scarring

Have an active skin infection, irritation or breakout in the area you’d like treated

Have a history of severe allergic reactions

Are on medication that affects your immune system

Are pregnant or breastfeeding

Have recently had, or are planning, a laser treatment, chemical peel or other skin procedure in the area
