A man’s guide to BOTOX®

Oakville Plastic Surgery, male botox before and after

You’ve probably heard of BOTOX COSMETIC®, the popular wrinkle-smoothing injectable treatment that helps your friends, family, and celebrities everywhere look fresh-faced and rejuvenated. Something you may not know? Men love Botox® too! At Oakville Plastic Surgery, we continue to see exponential growth in male treatments and here’s why: men want to look as good as they feel too. So today, we’re guiding our male patients through everything they need to know about this popular treatment, complete with male Botox® before and after images.

What is BOTOX®?

Let’s start with the basics. Botox® is a neuromodulator. Neuromodulators are expertly injected into target areas to soften the unwanted lines and wrinkles that form over time as a result of the muscles in your face repeatedly contracting and tightening. The treatment works by blocking the nerve signals to certain facial muscles, temporarily preventing them from contracting and causing wrinkles to develop or worsen. Results of a neuromodulator treatment last an average of three to four months.

What areas do men commonly have treated?

Based on a patient’s unique facial structures and concerns, the treatment will be customized to achieve optimal results. Some of the most common areas men have treated include:

Frown lines.

Frown lines appear between the eyebrows—sometimes when you’re not even frowning—as a result of repeated furrowing of the brow over time combined with a loss of collagen and elastin in aging skin. For many men, these stubborn lines result in a serious, or even angry expression.

Forehead lines.

One day you look in the mirror, and you see them: the horizontal lines forming across your forehead. Treating these telltale signs of aging with Botox® can help men to look more relaxed or rested.

Crow’s feet.

Also known as “laugh lines”, crow’s feet are the lines that form at the corner of your eyes as a result of collagen loss around the muscle that encircles the eye. This muscle contracts when we smile or squint, causing these little lines that can add years to your face.

Botox® for hyperhidrosis.

Surprise! Botox® isn’t just for smoothing wrinkles. If you suffer from excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), BOTOX THERAPEUTIC® treatments can help. One of the safest and most effective treatments for hyperhidrosis, Botox® works by blocking the secretion of the chemical that activates the sweat glands, with results lasting three to six months.

At Oakville Plastic Surgery, we notice an increase in patients coming to see us in the spring and summer months. They’re looking for relief from excessive sweating, affecting the hands, underarms, and even the forehead due to stress and hot weather. During the consultation, we often learn that these patients have – frustratingly – tried many alternative remedies for this condition before coming to see us. Within a few days following their treatment, they find amazing relief!

No matter who you are, with just a few quick and precise injections you could be looking and feeling more refreshed and youthful. To determine if a neuromodulator treatment is right for you, we invite you to book a professional consultation with our registered nurse injector.
