Vampire Facial for hair loss: NEW at Oakville Plastic Surgery.

Oakville Plastic Surgery, PRP for hair loss

If you suffer from hair loss, you know it can be a frustrating and embarrassing issue. Usually genetically pre-determined, hair loss can leave both men and women feeling helpless and desperate for a solution.

We hear you. That’s why Oakville Plastic Surgery is pleased to be offering Vampire Facials for hair loss; a natural treatment that uses your own blood platelets for hair restoration. Yes… you read that right.

What is a Vampire Facial?

The treatment involves the injection of plasma into the scalp to promote hair restoration.

Essentially, our blood is made up of two main components: red blood cells, and plasma. Our plasma contains platelets, which provide essential growth factors that help promote healing and tissue repair, among other things.

How does it help with hair loss?

Those growth factors we just talked about? They help stimulate activity in your hair follicles and promote hair thickening and new hair growth. They work alongside your stem cells to jumpstart dormant hair back into the growth stage, and reverse a process called miniaturization (essentially, the shrinking of hair follicles) that occurs when hair loss begins. Though not a cure for baldness, a Vampire Facial can significantly slow down the effects, and work to increase hair density.

What should I expect from a treatment?

Your treatment provider will begin by extracting a small sample of your blood, which is then placed in a centrifuge to separate your red blood cells from your plasma. Then, using a small syringe, the concentrated Platelet-Rich Plasma is collected and injected directly into your scalp at the level of the hair follicle, in the areas that need improvement.

It might sound scary, but typically the process takes less than 30 minutes and involves minimal discomfort.

What’s the recovery like?

There is minimal downtime, if any, associated with Vampire Facials for hair loss. Bruising may occur at the site of the injections, but this usually resolves within a week or two. You will also be advised to avoid using harsh dyes or chemicals on your hair for 48 hours following your treatment.

How many treatments are required?

The number of treatments required will be different for each patient, but consistency is key. Initially, we may recommend several treatments at one month intervals. Once your initial treatment series is complete, maintenance treatments may also be recommended 2-3 times per year.

What can I do to maximize my results?

A Vampire Facial can and should be a part of a multifaceted program to treat hair thinning and loss. For best results, we recommend also using Revivogen® MD natural hair re-growth treatments. While Vampire Facials promotes essential growth factors, the Revivogen® MD system is formulated to block dihydrotestosterone (DHT) from binding to the hair follicle (this binding is one of the main causes of hair loss), which in turn activates the hair follicle’s growth cycle. Using this combined system, rather than a Vampire Facial alone, can help to maximize results.
