Breast reconstruction surgery is a subject that is very close to our hearts at Oakville Plastic Surgery & Medspa. As a plastic surgeon, Dr. de Kleer has worked extensively to raise awareness and funding for continued innovations in breast reconstruction surgery methods and improved patient care in the Oakville/Mississauga region. With this in mind, and with Breast Cancer Awareness month beginning October 1st, it’s the perfect time to share some important dates and information with you.
The Halton / Peel region Breast Reconstruction Awareness (BRA) Day is October 14th, 2015 followed by International BRA Day on October 21st, 2015.
What is BRA Day all about?
BRA Day is an initiative designed to educate, raise awareness and improve access for women who may wish to consider post-mastectomy breast reconstruction. The BRA day event is an informative evening designed to empower women in their decisions about breast reconstruction.

Breast reconstruction is a powerful component of the breast cancer recovery process, but often patients are not informed on their options for the best post-mastectomy care. BRA Day is a grassroots effort to empower patients to advocate for the highest standards of care. This year’s BRA Day campaign includes important initiatives like the ‘Breast Reconstruction Rights of Care’, a crowd-sourced “bill of rights” composed of knowledge and insight from breast cancer survivors who have experienced breast reconstruction first-hand. The information gathered will be used to improve the care that breast reconstruction patients receive.
The BRA Day website is an excellent resource to learn more about breast reconstruction. Click here for their library of informative breast reconstruction videos.
BRA Day is an example of how passionate health professionals and concerned citizens can raise awareness and effect positive change for the improvement of healthcare standards. We hope you’ll join us in supporting this cause.
