Rejuvenating the neck and decollete

Two areas often neglected in an anti-aging regimen are the neck and décolleté (chest). Like the face and hands, the neck and décolleté are exposed to environmental aggressors and UV light more often than other parts of the body. Aging concerns such as brown spots, wrinkles and loose skin begin to manifest in these areas over time. The skin of the neck is different than that of the face; it is thinner and less resilient, requiring special care. Here we discuss rejuvenation techniques specific to the neck and décolleté.

Addressing neckbands.

The muscles of the neck and other areas of the face and body can become rigid with age. This tightening can result in severe or prominent neckbands over time. A neuromodulator application (such as a BOTOX COSMETIC® treatment) is an excellent option to preventing and reducing the look of these lines. Carefully placed injections of a purified protein known as botulinum toxin type A can smooth and relax the protruding muscles, restoring a flattering silhouette to the neck. Another great option for treating neckbands, especially deep ones, is with the application of a dermal filler treatment. Dermal filler (such as JUVÉDERM® or Restylane® treatments) can minimize the appearance of neckbands with targeted filler injections. Dermal filler plumps the skin and fills in the hollows of neckbands, resulting in a smoother, tighter and trimmer-looking neck.

Addressing wrinkles and lax skin on the neck and décolleté.

Part of skin aging entails loss of volume and elasticity. Fine lines, wrinkles, crepingIP, lax skin, ‘turkey neck’ and a mottled jawline are manifestations of this loss of elasticity and firmness. Wrinkles on the chest in between the breasts are also a common skin laxity-related aging concern. Oakville Plastic Surgery and Advanced Skincare can provide both non-surgical and surgical treatments to address these concerns.

A non-invasive solution for lax skin on the neck and décolleté.

Thermage®. Using radiofrequency energy that is precisely delivered deep into the skin, Thermage® remodels existing collagen and stimulates collagen synthesis to restore skin firmness. Deep wrinkles are softened and fine lines are noticeably smoothed. Skin contours are redefined and skin tone and resiliency are improved.

One treatment is often sufficient to provide a satisfactory improvement in skin firmness. Results from a Thermage® treatment develop for up to six months, at which point an optional follow up treatment can enhance results even further.

Neck lift. For loose skin that cannot benefit from a non-invasive Thermage® treatment, or in the case where excess fat needs to be removed, a neck lift surgical procedure can be an effective solution. Neck lift surgery combines several techniques, which may include liposuction, and the trimming, removal, realignment and placement or redraping of muscle, fat and excess skin tissue. Surgical incisions are placed in inconspicuous spots such as under the jaw and behind the ears to minimize their visibility.

Addressing brown spots / uneven skin tone on the neck and décolleté.

Fotofacials (IPL Photorejuvenation). It is said that people notice an uneven skin tone as a marker of aging – more so than wrinkles or skin laxity. Fortunately, there are highly effective cosmetic treatments at our disposal to correct the brown spots and redness that contribute to an uneven skin tone. Fotofacials are one such treatment. Fotofacial RF™ technology uses wavelengths of light and radiofrequency energy to deliver heat into the skin to precisely target pigmented cells and dilated vessels. The destroyed blood vessel cells are metabolized by the body while undesirable pigmentation is pushed to the skin’s surface and sloughed away through exfoliation, revealing a more even and radiant skin tone.

Addressing rough skin texture on the neck and décolleté.

Clinical peels. Working with a variety of professional medical-grade skincare lines, Oakville Plastic Surgery and Advanced Skincare provides highly effective and safe clinical peels to improve skin texture. The slow-down in our skin’s regeneration process – in combination with sun damage – can lead to a rough and leathery skin texture. The ability to deeply exfoliate the skin in a controlled in-office setting can yield lasting improvements to the health and quality of your skin. Regular clinical peels help maintain smooth and supple skin.
